Your Network Runs Your Business. Is It Secure?

One-day, on-site network security audit for Cleveland, Akron, and Northeast Ohio businesses. We identify every device, test every open service, verify your firewall and VLAN segmentation actually hold, and hand you a written report with prioritized fixes. Nothing gets attacked, nothing leaves your building.

Every audit starts with a quick scoping call to confirm what's in scope, when, and which tier fits. No obligation, no pressure. Cleveland · Akron · Northeast Ohio · in business since 2000.

⚠ Industry warning

Most small-business networks have doors open they don't know about

Default passwords on cameras. Guest Wi-Fi that reaches the POS. VLANs that were labeled but never tested. Firewall rules a former IT guy added and nobody remembers why. Every one of those is invisible until someone looks — and by "someone" we mean either us, or an intruder. The point of an audit is to make sure it's us.

What we check

The eight standard checks on every audit

Every audit runs the same eight checks. Nothing gets skipped, nothing gets bolted on to run up the bill.

Device inventory

Every device on your network identified by IP, MAC address, vendor, and device type. Catches unknown or unauthorized devices your team never added.

Open-service map

Every listening port on every device, with service fingerprint. Catches exposed admin panels, unpatched services, and default configurations.

Camera & NVR default-credential check

Every camera and recorder cross-referenced against the manufacturer's shipped default password list. Catches the number-one cause of small-business camera compromises.

Wireless access-point audit

Passive scan for rogue access points, mis-configured guest networks, weak encryption, and WPS-enabled radios that shouldn't be.

VLAN segmentation verification

Your network probably has labels like "Camera VLAN" or "Guest Wi-Fi" — but does the segmentation actually hold? We test it with controlled traffic and prove it either way.

Firewall rule sanity check

Review of your inbound rules, outbound rules, and stale port-forwards. Catches overly-permissive rules and orphaned holes in your perimeter.

Live traffic pattern baseline

A twenty-minute snapshot of what your network is actually doing right now, visualized so you can see it. Very useful for owners who've never seen "the picture."

Written report with fix priorities

Findings sorted urgent, important, and nice-to-fix. Each finding includes what we found, why it matters, how to fix it, and cost estimate. Delivered within three business days.

The process

How a day on site actually goes

01

Arrive & confirm scope

Sign the written scope and consent. Walk the network closet. Confirm what's in scope and what's out of scope. Get the site contact.

02

Discover & test

Three to four hours running the eight standard checks. Passive discovery, controlled testing, live traffic capture. No downtime, no service impact.

03

Write it up

Two to three hours back at the shop turning raw output into a plain-English report with prioritized fixes. Nothing invented, nothing exaggerated.

04

Deliver & follow up

Report delivered within three business days as PDF and markdown. Signature tier includes a thirty-day follow-up call and re-scan of any remediated items.

Straightforward pricing

Three tiers scaled to your site

Every tier includes the eight standard checks and the written report. Bigger tiers add more devices, more time on site, and more depth on cameras, segmentation, and follow-up.

Network security audit — common questions

What is a network security audit?

A one-day, on-site professional review of everything running on your business network. We identify every device, test every open service, verify your firewall and VLAN segmentation actually work, check every camera and NVR against manufacturer default passwords, listen for rogue wireless access points, and hand you a written report with prioritized fixes. Nothing gets attacked, nothing leaves your building, nothing gets changed without your permission.

Do I really need one if my network 'works fine'?

'Working' and 'secure' are different things. Most small-business networks work fine right up until an intruder is inside. The audit finds the doors that are open right now — default passwords, exposed admin panels, guest Wi-Fi that reaches the POS, cameras that ship insecure by default. Every one of those is invisible until someone looks.

Is this the same as a penetration test?

No. A penetration test is an offensive engagement where testers actively try to break in. Our network audit is defensive — passive discovery, controlled testing within written scope, and configuration review. You get the same visibility with none of the risk. Penetration testing is usually a separate engagement with a specialist firm; if you need that scope, we can refer you.

How disruptive is the audit?

Not at all. We plug into a normal switch port, run passive scans and controlled tests during business hours, and pack up. No downtime, no service interruption, no user impact. Most staff don't even notice we're there.

What do I get at the end?

A written report you can hand to a bookkeeper, an accountant, or an insurance carrier. Executive summary on page one (plain English, no jargon). Findings prioritized urgent / important / nice-to-fix, each with what we found, why it matters, how to fix it, and cost estimates. Delivered within three business days. Rush next-day available.

What tools do you use?

Industry-standard defensive security tools — the same class of tools used by cybersecurity consulting firms. Everything runs locally on our laptop. Nothing gets sent to a cloud service, nothing gets stored off-site, and you receive every raw output file at the end. We don't use anything you couldn't audit yourself.

Can this satisfy my PCI or HIPAA compliance?

This is a professional network security assessment, not an accredited compliance certification. Formal PCI-DSS or HIPAA compliance requires certified assessors and different scope. That said, our audit surfaces most of the technical findings a compliance audit would flag — fixing them puts you in a much stronger position when the formal assessment happens. If you need a certified assessor, we can refer you to a partner.

How often should I run one?

Every twelve months for stable environments. Every six months if you're growing or changing infrastructure. Immediately after any of: major IT staff change, new POS or payment system, new camera install, new location, or if you suspect a breach. Optional Managed Network Health monitoring keeps eyes on your network between audits.

How to use the network security audit checklist for small business

A small-business network security audit checks the paths attackers most often exploit: weak router settings, reused passwords, exposed remote access, outdated cameras or recorders, flat networks and missing backups. This page turns those checks into a practical risk score and prioritized fix list without claiming to replace a hands-on cybersecurity assessment.

Use it in three steps

  1. Review internet gateway, Wi-Fi, remote-access and administrator-account controls.
  2. Check cameras, NVRs, workstations and other connected devices for default credentials, old firmware and unnecessary internet exposure.
  3. Prioritize the highest-risk gaps, document ownership and schedule verification after each fix.

Know the limit

A browser checklist cannot inspect traffic, firewall rules, endpoint logs or hidden devices. Use the score to organize a professional assessment when regulated data, payment systems, remote workers or critical operations are involved.

Questions people ask

What does a small-business network security audit cover?

It should cover the internet gateway, Wi-Fi, user access, backups, remote access, connected devices and the process for updates and incident response.

Should security cameras be on a separate network?

Segmentation can reduce the impact of a compromised camera or recorder, but the correct design depends on switch, VLAN, firewall and remote-viewing requirements.

Does this checklist replace a penetration test?

No. It is a planning and triage tool; it does not probe systems or prove that a network is secure.
